Why have a world flag?
A world flag is important for a variety of reasons. Firstly it serves as an iconic emblem of the planet we live in - a banner of unity that encourages people everywhere to take pride in the world around us. As a shared symbol it also embodies the essence of humanity as an image of power designed to evoke both trust and respect. Who are we?
The Worlds Flag was formed in the autumn of 2002. The aim was simple - the design of a world flag as a neutral emblem of the planet we live on. Members come from a variety of nations reflecting the status of The Worlds Flag as an independent ambassador for a shared world flag.
What purpose do we serve?
Our purpose is to ensure that The Worlds Flag becomes the official emblem of the planet we live on. We are fully aware of the responsibilities this entails and with this in mind our members are carefully chosen for their grasp of international events and affairs. Our strict neutrality means we do not take sides in any disputes and are therefore unable to make comments of a political nature.
What gives us the right?
People wonder what right we have to press for the universal adoption of our world flag design. The answer is straightforward. It is that any great new venture depends on the dedication and single-mindedness of all those involved. Without this it would never succeed. Therefore we feel justified in believing that the sheer forcefulness of our convictions bestows its own rights upon this venture. The right to give to the world a unique emblem that people everywhere will be proud to look upon as The Worlds Flag.

Have we any political orientation?
The Worlds Flag is entirely neutral of any political control or direction.
Shouldn’t the name The Worlds Flag have an apostrophe in it?
To be grammatically correct then perhaps it should. However we decided against this for the following reasons. The Worlds Flag name was intended to be as close to our web address as we could manage. For that reason we dropped the apostrophe in order to avoid confusion. We believe that in this case the use of a certain amount of artistic licence is wholly justified.
The ratio of the flag as seen on the web site is not consistent between examples.
This was done solely for layout purposes in order to make the site more visually attractive.
Isn’t the United Nations Flag the real world flag?
Some may see it that way. However the truth is that the United Nations flag has become synonymous with trouble spots the world over. Effectively it is now associated with unpleasant events. The Worlds Flag however reflects much more than the United Nations equivalent. It reflects our place in the world and the solar system, and acts as an entirely neutral emblem to a better future.
Putting world maps on flags is a definite design “no no”
The difficulty with including any map on a flag is that the reverse mirror image comes out the wrong way. As a technical problem this is not difficult to solve. It simply makes the flag a little more expensive. As for the tradition of not putting maps on a flag that’s one tradition we are happy to consign to history.
The Worlds Flag design is too American?
A reflection of these times is the criticism that The Worlds Flag looks “too American.” The fact is that The Worlds Flag is completely neutral to the interests of any one nation or group of nations.
